OC suspended over assault on students in Gazipur

The officer-in-charge of Gazipur’s Sadar police station, Mohammad Arifur Rahman, has been suspended over the attack on students.

Gazipur Metropolitan Police, GMP, Commissioner Nazmul Karin Kham said this on Saturday afternoon, February 8.

There are allegations against the OC that he failed to go to the spot immediately despite being informed by the victims.

The GMP commissioner appologised to the students for the negligence by police.

He said those who attacked the students will be brought to book and action will be taken against the police officers who neglected their duties.

He also said 16 people have, so far, been arrested over the attack.

Sources said after receiving news of an attack on the ancestral home of former Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque in the Dhirasram area of Gazipur on Friday night, February 7, supporters of the Anti-Discrimination Students Movement reached the site.

Upon their arrival, members of the Awami League, Jubo League, and Chhatra League carried out a planned attack. As a result, 15 individuals were injured, five of whom sustained serious injuries and were transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
